There are many myths about this disease which can lead to prolongation in diagnosis. Some people feel that it affects only women, which is not true. It can affect men too. Another myth is that if a lump is felt in the breast, it is cancer. Lumps can be formed by other causes such as cysts, fibro adenomas, natural fibrocystic changes, calcium deposits, low grade infections and injuries in breast. Amazingly people think this disease is an infectious one which is certainly not true!

Check for lumps on your breast or any thickening of breast tissue.

If you notice your breast enlarging, check on this with your doctor. If you are over 30, it's better to have your doctor check your breasts every year.
   

Those over 40 should consider having a mammogram done every year.
